The Nature and Nature Materials magazines devoted the whole issue discussing scientific, particularly materials research in China. This is not surprising with the fore coming Olympic Games in Beijing. The arisen China is again put on the hot spot.
What caught my eyes was a small portion of the article talking about Hong Kong. Basically Hong Kong is reinventing itself and became a more dynamic land under the influence of mainland China. Besides the economics, the scientific booming is another most persuasive evidence.
This reminds me the fact that the development of China, every aspect of it, is constantly companied by criticizing from western world. When the benefit of the world is tied up with China, the criticizing may be just a brain storming strategy. But underneath it, I believe people should be long-sighted: not just look at what China looks like today but in the (near) future. As the journal pointed out: The dragon awakens.
I am not sure how much drama will come before the Olympic game but one thing I am very sure: this summer in Beijing is going to be really HOT!
