Recently one of the greatest Chinese scientists Tsien Hsue-Shen (Qian Xueseng) passed away. I am not going to tell the story again since there are tons of information online already. Too bad, every time only after the person has passed away that I can learn something about him/her. Before that, they are only idolized names in my mind.

In the last five years before Tsien went back to China, he first was accused, then detained, then deported. He never came back to US. One question keeps floating in my mind: how could he break up with a country where he spent the whole career (which was very successful) only because of five years’ unfair treatment? Instead he stayed in China without any complaining and re-established everything in decades of tumbled time.

This is probably why we call that land as ‘mother-land’.
