About Me
Hello My Friend, thank you for visiting my website! My name is Weiwei. I am from Kunming, Yunnan Province of China. Kunming is one of the most beautiful cities in China and has the name of ‘the Spring City’ of China.
In 1996, I left home and went to Tsinghua University in Beijing to study polymer science and engineering. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree In 2000, I came to US and studied nano fabrication and characterizations of oxide thin films at Yale University. I obtained my PhD from Yale’s Chemical Engineering Department in 2005. I then came to Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology at Harvard University to study nanoparticle chemistry. In June 2008, I joined Dr. Farokhzad’s research lab and MIT‘s Langer Lab. Currently I am a research fellow affiliated with Brigham & Woman’s Hospital in Boston, Harvard Medical School and MIT-Langer Lab. I spent most of my time at both MIT and Brigham & Woman’s Hospital. My current research is engineering polymeric nanoparticles for drug delivery.
Outside of research lab, I am a nature/underwater photographer. I started scuba diving in 2004 at Yale and got certified through Diver’s Cove in Essex, CT. Since then, I have logged more than 200 dives. I spent many dives in New England water, such as Cape Ann (Mass), James Town (RI) and Stonington (CT). I also dive a lot around the country, from Upper State of New York to Florida Keys and from North Carolina Outer Banks to California Channel Islands. You can find lots of information of my trips in my web journal.
I enjoy the adventure of diving and taking underwater pictures. It is a challenging task but it’s very rewarding. My camera and my dive gears have brought me to many places that I wouldn’t have gone without them, and to make many friends that I wouldn’t have been able to. In 2006, I had a photo exhibition at Yale. The Yale Bulletin reported the event. You can also find a photo slide show me and Chi made for the exhibition as part of the program.
The website ‘atweiwei.net’ was set up in 2004 when I started scuba diving and underwater photography. Life has certain priority at certain stages and I don’t always post a lot. But I am always trying to keep the website updated about the things around my life. You can also find me on Facebook. All the pictures in the current web journal are linked from Flickr. There are many stories in the older version of my web journal.
I am glad you look at my website. If you need to catch me, you can send an email to me at gao_weiwei AT yahoo.com. I am looking forward to talking to you!
Weiwei
